Are you performing for the wrong crowd?
I love studying greatness.
In my mind, I have a secret playlist of performances that I've taken to call The Peak.
Performances that made The Peak are pieces that represents the very best of what an artist can do at their peak.
Whenever I come across a particular performance on YouTube or any social media, if they made enough of an impression on me, I'd subconsciously add this to the collection.
And when I do research on them, I found out they're not necessarily studio produced.
They're usually live performances that took place after a major life event, or perhaps they're in a competition.
I think that the effect of going through something difficult, or the pressure of a competition can ignite a person to shine bright like they never did before in any part of their life.
Witnessing these moments inspires me like nothing else.
The Peak of their talent…and humanity. Captured in a moment. Immortalized through a video.
One of these performances in my collection is a performance by a Korean rock band in the competition Superband.
The first time I watched that performance, I was completely floored.
This was videoed in a competition setting, watched by judges and their competition.
In spite of that, when I see the faces of the other contestants, I did not see any envy.
Lightyears away from disinterest, I see wide eyed rapture and open mouths at the performance.
It was so good, it was no longer a performance…the word ‘concert’ was a better description, looking at how everyone in the crowd, including their competitors, was rocking to that band.
It was by far one of the best, most emotional performances I’ve ever seen in my life.
Comments section was filled with people who thought the same thing.
Shit is so good I don’t know the words that describes what I felt when I watched that video.
Reaction channels on youtube lost their collective minds…they used phrases like “This is insane!!!”, “Lost my mind”, “Legends are born” to describe the performance.
